01 — THE OBJECT
Old Fishing, New Clothes. DAIWA PIER39 looks back to the functional language of 1980s fishing gear to build something contemporary. Rod holders, tackle storage and field-driven construction remain intact, but the context changes. It is less about borrowing the look of fishing than carrying its logic into a different wardrobe.

The Things We Bring Home. Steve Duda writes about the small river rocks anglers carry home and keep for years. They have almost no value outside the memory attached to them, which may be precisely the point. Fishing leaves behind its own private archive of objects, habits and places.

The Field, Reconsidered. Barbour and Hiroshi Nozawa’s norbit bring British field heritage and Japanese functional design into the same wardrobe. Waxed cloth, tartan and country clothing remain recognizable, but construction and proportion move forward. Heritage becomes useful when it is allowed to evolve.

Carp for the City. CarpSlam XX raised more than $111,000 for restoration of Denver’s South Platte. The fish is overlooked. The river is urban. Neither fits the traditional image of aspirational fly fishing, which is exactly why the story matters. Stewardship can begin with the water already running through your neighborhood.
05 — THE CLUBHOUSE
The Fly Shop Adds a Tap. Precision Fly Fishing and Stick City Beer have put a taproom inside a Pennsylvania fly shop. The beer is a nice detail. The larger idea is what happens when specialist retail becomes somewhere people stay, gather and talk rather than simply buy what they need and leave.
