Week 42 · October 2026

Fishing has a way of travelling with us. It turns up in the clothes we wear, the people we learn from and the places we choose to spend our time.

This edition follows five of those connections: a family fishing album translated into streetwear, a familiar jacket reconsidered in Japan, a century of casting, a chef’s island residency and a fly shop giving its town a reason to gather.

01 — THE STORY

A Family Fishing Album - Stüssy x Denim Tears

Tremaine Emory’s fishing trips with his father, Tracy, provide the starting point for Stüssy Tears. Released October 16, the collection’s campaign returns to Canopus Lake, Tracy’s favourite fishing spot. Slickers, fishing references and a rainbow-trout sequin hoodie carry something personal into the wardrobe: the memory of time spent together.

02 — THE OBJECT

The Spey Leaves the River - Barbour × JOURNAL STANDARD

A longer body, an adjustable hem and a tonal back panel. JOURNAL STANDARD’s SPEY Combi makes a few considered changes to Barbour’s fishing silhouette. The interest is in the proportions: how a garment shaped by time beside the water can find another place in the everyday wardrobe.

03 — THE PERSON

A Century in Motion - Joan Wulff

Joan Wulff turned one hundred on October 18. Her championship record is remarkable; her contribution to teaching reaches further still. A lifetime spent making the cast understandable reminds us how fishing culture moves forward: through patient instruction, practical encouragement and someone willing to make room beside them on the bank.

04 — THE RITUAL

The Chef Leaves the Kitchen - Christoph Kunz

On Platte Island in the Seychelles, Christoph Kunz’s October 17–21 residency at Moulin pairs dinners and a masterclass with a fishing trip. The restaurant sits within a vegetable and herb garden. Water, growing and cooking become different ways of encountering the same place, giving the meal a context beyond the table.

05 — THE GATHERING

The Fly Shop Takes the Town Out - On The Fly Outfitters

A shop, a theatre and a brewery. On The Fly Outfitters’ October 15 programme connected three Brunswick meeting places through a filmmaker gathering, the Fly Fishing Film Tour and live music. It is a compelling role for an independent fly shop: helping a shared interest become part of a town’s cultural life.

A family memory, a familiar silhouette, a lesson passed on. The things we carry away from fishing often stay with us longer than the day itself.

Five different subjects connected by the same idea: fishing becomes more interesting when we follow where it leads beyond the water.

The river is a starting point.

Until next week.
